Tomorrow evening marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. At this time, Jewish people reflect on the year that is ending and the one beginning.
This year, my reflections provoke mixed emotions. The past year has been extremely challenging for Jewish Family Services, due primarily to forces outside of our control. We anticipate similar turmoil in the year ahead. It’s hard not to feel exhausted and anxious in such circumstances. At the same time, I am so proud of how our team has responded to severe funding cuts and increased community needs with creativity, resilience and compassion. And I am deeply grateful to you – our donors, volunteers, funders and community partners – for stepping up in a variety of ways to help us meet these challenges.
No matter what the new year brings, I have no doubt that Jewish Family Services will remain laser-focused on the values that drive our work and the tremendous community impact we generate. We believe:
- All people, no matter how different, are connected.
- We have a communal responsibility to stand up for each other, especially for those among us who are vulnerable.
- We should treat ourselves and each other with dignity and respect.
May these values continue to guide us all in the year ahead.
Thank you for providing support that empowers us to help people face life’s challenges with dignity and renewed hope.
Wishing you Shanah Tovah, a sweet New Year.
