After retiring, Diane felt increasingly isolated. She struggled to live alone on a fixed income and with limited mobility due to arthritis. When simple tasks like grocery shopping became impossible, Diane turned to JFS for help – and found a lifeline.
First, JFS worked with Diane to stabilize her situation. A dedicated case manager helped her increase her Social Security income, secure SNAP benefits, and keep her Medicaid active, maintaining her access to essential healthcare. JFS then arranged volunteers to deliver groceries and meals so Diane could focus on regaining her footing and tackling her next goal: learning technology.
With guidance from a digital skills coach, Diane learned the basics of operating her device. Though overwhelmed at first, she gradually grew more confident.
Before long, Diane mastered ordering groceries and prescriptions online, sending emails, using Zoom, and even renewing her benefits. Tasks that once seemed impossible became manageable, giving Diane back her autonomy.
Today, Diane manages daily life with confidence and stays connected to her community – proof that with personalized support and access to the right tools, older adults can thrive at home with dignity and independence.
