An
Act of Kindness Goes a Long Way
Interview of Cara
by Jared
An act of kindness goes a long way.
An emotional link from Jewish Family Services (JFS) in Columbus,
Ohio reaches across the country and across the years to a Jewish Family Services agency in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The year was 1951. A husband and wife in Atlantic City had wanted a
child for a long time, but they were having trouble. Their local JFS agency answered their
prayers and helped them adopt a baby girl. This baby girl grew up and gave birth to a daughter
of her own named Cara. Cara grew up to become a successful adult and a member of the
Columbus, Ohio JFS Board of Directors, serving on the board for six years.
Cara now has a daughter of her own and realizes how
significant it was that her grandparents received a child of their own from JFS. Cara wants
to give back to JFS, and she volunteers in many different ways. She has been the co-chair of
the annual campaign for two years, chair of resource development for two years, has worked
on the board development committee and has served on the help-loan committee.
Cara feels that it is very important to help others and that
the rewards of serving JFS are many.
"JFS is a dedicated, compassionate and loyal agency whose
kindness is outstanding," says Cara.
An act of kindness goes a long way. Cara's kindness will live
on, just like the kindness of a Jewish Family Service agency across the country in New
Jersey on that fateful day in 1951.
